13STAIRS[-]1

Romaji and English translation of the song 13STAIRS[-]1 from the album DIM by the GazettE.

Translator's Notes
  • Lyrics originally sung in English are in italics , and words or phrases I felt were implied are in [brackets] in the translation.
  • I also (usually) put repeats of chorus/verses/stanzas in [brackets] if they’re not written that way in the original lyrics for ease of singing along.
  • If he writes a word in the lyrics but doesn’t sing it, I put it in light grey to make it easier to skip when singing along.
  • I usually romajize katakana characters in CAPITALS, and keep punctuation and line spacing as close to the original booklet as possible. If you see me putting spaces before punctuation at the end of a sentence or writing things in mixed-case capitals, that’s because it’s how it was in the booklet.
  • Any comments I had during the romajization/translation process will be included as footnotes so as not to disturb the flow of the song. They’re not required reading, but Ruki does some pretty nifty things with his lyrics/kanji choices, or sometimes there’s further explanations about words or phrases in there.

13STAIRS[-]11: Romaji

Taihai shisou     ukiyo banare no Grave
Discrimination against music
Gouhou no 13
The loser who was brainwashed

Bullshit

Commit suicide in with-it-ness
Right now…
In front of me!

You cannot understand my vulgar thought
It is a correct answer
It is your duty to train a slave waving a waist

Rotten buyer
Shame on you!
Commit suicide in with-it-ness
In front of me!
Bravely…

Rotten seller
Know yourself!
Commit suicide in with-it-ness
Before that…
Suck my dick

[You cannot understand my vulgar thought
It is a correct answer
It is your duty to train a slave waving a waist]

[Rotten buyer
Shame on you!
Commit suicide in with-it-ness
In front of me!
Bravely…]

[Rotten seller
Know yourself!
Commit suicide in with-it-ness
Before that…
Suck my dick]

The industry has been already over
The red base
All the losers sing a hymn in hell
Enjoy a vulgar play

Saa warae     tobiorirenu RUUPU     suushiki ni kuwareta kaku
Saa warae     mada yarerun darou?     13 made ato sukoshi

[Shut the fuck up fucker
Shut the fuck up]

Can’t get back
A loser of the uncontrollability
Enjoy a vulgar play

Can’t get back

  1. So there is a word, 十三階段 juusankaidan, that translated literally means “13 stairs” – but it’s also a term for “gallows” (where someone is hanged). This term references the number of steps to the platform where execution is carried out – 13. Anywhere he references 13 in this song, he’s talking about those steps leading to the gallows and/or a metaphor for death. (Also, side note, he pronounces 13 in English throughout the song.)

Also, basically, with the little bit of math in the title of the song (13 stairs – 1 = on the 12th stair), it could be thought of as “Standing on the 12th stair before the gallows” or even shorter, “One step away from death.”
  2. I think “loop” references the noose on the gallows.
  3. I think this is literally referencing the “math” in the title of the song (13 stairs – 1 = 12th stair). This line could be thought of like “All you can think about is how you’re so close to death, and you can’t take that final step.”
