IN BLOSSOM

Romaji and English translation of the song IN BLOSSOM from the album BEAUTIFUL DEFORMITY by the GazettE.

Translator's Notes
  • Lyrics originally sung in English are in italics in the translation.
  • Words or phrases I felt were implied are in [brackets].
  • I also (usually) put repeats of chorus/verses/stanzas in [brackets] if they’re not written that way in the original lyrics for ease of singing along.
  • Any comments I had during the romajization/translation process will be included as footnotes so as not to disturb the flow of the song. They’re not required reading, but Ruki does some pretty nifty things with his lyrics/kanji choices, or sometimes there’s further explanations about words or phrases in there.

IN BLOSSOM: Romaji

Wasted
huge respect to you
I believed in it all
I was about to be deceived What garbage!
why so serious?
I believed it all
Which is a true face?
Ties of blood
Rain of abuse
It’s finished now

Umiotoshi okizari no te     nani mo tsukamenai hibi
Yubiori itami kazoeru     wasurenu you ni

I need a meaning to live for
Nouri ni nezuku shisou
Nothing changes even if I die
Sabitsuita hadekizamu
Yuiitsu sakenu Ties of blood
Akaku zouo ga majiru

I change despair into hope
I break you and get hope
Kazoeta kizu to satte ike

Azayaka ni irodoru     kirei ni saita ne
Kure hajimeta higa subete wo mitodoke teiru

Until this wound becomes the trace
Yurikago no naka nemuru risou wa kietekurenai
Soumatou ni utsuru naraku to asobu yami

Midaregami ni shitataru iro wa ore ga egaita risou to wa chigai
Yogore sugite ajigenai atama     doko wo hagaseba tobichiru rakuen?
I change despair into hope
I break you and get hope
Kazoeta kizuni wa toutei oyobanu nando saitemo uzukidashite shimau
Ieru dokoro ka fuhai wo kuitomerare mo shinai

Azayaka ni irodoru     kirei ni saita ne
Kure hajimeta higa subete wo mitodoke teiru

Until this wound becomes the trace
Yurikago no naka nemuru risou wa kietekurenai
Soumatou ni utsuru naraku to asobu yami

I change despair into hope
I break you and get hope
Kazoeta kizu to satte yuke

IN BLOSSOM: Translation

Wasted
huge respect to you
I believed in it all
I was about to be deceived What garbage!
why so serious?
I believed it all
Which is a true face?
Ties of blood
Rain of abuse
It’s finished now

[Trying to] give life1 to my forsaken hands     those days and everything in them remain
Out of my grasp
I count on my broken fingers     those things I can’t forget

I need a meaning to live for
That thought takes root inside my mind
Nothing changes even if I die
Cutting myself with the edge of a rusted blade
The Ties of blood that can’t be severed
Are dyed with red hatred

I change despair into hope
I break you and get hope
Until I fade and die from the wounds I’ve counted

Don’t they bloom so beautifully?     These brilliant colors
The setting sun [now allows] me to see everything so clearly

Until this wound becomes the trace
The dreams of sleeping in the cradle won’t fade away
Darkness plays with hell, reflected in the wavering light2

The color dripping from my disheveled hair isn’t the one I’d pictured it would be
My mind is unkempt and wretched      Where do I have to tear so paradise will shine through?
I change despair into hope
I break you and get hope
Even if I cut more times than I could count, it will still ache every time
It doesn’t even hold the decay in check, so I’ll never heal

Don’t they bloom so beautifully?     These brilliant colors
The setting sun [now allows] me to see everything so clearly

Until this wound becomes the trace
The dreams of sleeping in the cradle won’t fade away
Darkness plays with hell, reflected in the wavering light

I change despair into hope
I break you and get hope
Until I fade and die from the wounds I’ve counted

  1. 産み落とし umiotoshi literally means “to give birth, to deliver (as in a calf or foal).”
  2. 走馬灯 soumatou is that revolving lantern again; this time I translated it as a light source that is unsteady. It could also be translated metaphorically as “my life flashing before my eyes.”
