GODDESS

Romaji and English translation of the song GODDESS from the single UGLY by the GazettE.

Translator's Notes
  • Lyrics originally sung in English are in italics in the translation.
  • Words or phrases I felt were implied are in [brackets].
  • I also (usually) put repeats of chorus/verses/stanzas in [brackets] if they’re not written that way in the original lyrics for ease of singing along.
  • Any comments I had during the romajization/translation process will be included as footnotes so as not to disturb the flow of the song. They’re not required reading, but Ruki does some pretty nifty things with his lyrics/kanji choices, or sometimes there’s further explanations about words or phrases in there.

GODDESS: Translation

Suffering day after day
My reason for living
Is to embrace the answer that scratches the surface1

Trapped inside     drowning in what I can’t see, I’m unable to believe in “someday”
These bleak thoughts are my sacrifice that will one day begin to thaw into a selfless, smiling heart
Drain

I want to become the stars that fill the silence
Giving voice to my multitude of sins, growing louder until it’s distorted
Floating in a haze      within this shallow sleep
Your hand gently caresses my crippling despair as I face this moment

Suffering day after day
For all eternity
I simply wish that I might live
[But] it’s the end of me…

Trapped inside     drowning in what I can’t see, I’m unable to believe in “someday”
These bleak thoughts are my sacrifice that will one day begin to thaw into a selfless, smiling heart

I can’t become the stars that fill the silence
Giving voice to my multitude of sins, it kills me as I struggle
[If only] I could share my  grief that can’t be put into words
[If only] I could face reality and live accepting my crippling despair…

Translator’s Notes:

  1. soko means “bottom/sole” and 突く suku means a myriad of things like, “to poke/to prick/to prod/to prop oneself up with/to brave (an attack).”  I was waffling between this and something along the lines of “that keeps me from hitting the bottom.”
