Ibitsu

Romaji and English translation of the song 歪 (Ibitsu) from the album DIVISION by the GazettE.

Translator's Notes
  • Lyrics originally sung in English are in italics , and words or phrases I felt were implied are in [brackets] in the translation.
  • I also (usually) put repeats of chorus/verses/stanzas in [brackets] if they’re not written that way in the original lyrics for ease of singing along.
  • If he writes a word in the lyrics but doesn’t sing it, I put it in light grey to make it easier to skip when singing along.
  • I usually romajize katakana characters in CAPITALS, and keep punctuation and line spacing as close to the original booklet as possible. If you see me putting spaces before punctuation at the end of a sentence or writing things in mixed-case capitals, that’s because it’s how it was in the booklet.
  • Any comments I had during the romajization/translation process will be included as footnotes so as not to disturb the flow of the song. They’re not required reading, but Ruki does some pretty nifty things with his lyrics/kanji choices, or sometimes there’s further explanations about words or phrases in there.

Ibitsu: Romaji

Yugami yo kono mama doko he
Do you take me away?

Muimini kizamu toki ni me wo toji
Kara mawaru honnou wo mita
Hoshigaru gokan ga mitsu wo susuri
Kumo rakumo nukegara no you de

Azayaka sugita risou ni kuzurete gareki no umi he

Soko ni korogaru jibun ni kidzuku
Yoku ni obore modorenai
Miagereba michi sugite ita toki
Kono sora wa nigori hatete ita

Gareki ni saita hana mo karete shimau ne

Kono me wo hanaseba itsuka kiete iku
Yugande yuku keshiki ga ore wo warau yo

Mada minu mirai soko ni aru no wa “souzou” no nareno hate ka

Suitaishita mama nanimo dekizu ni
Kikeina genjitsu wo oyogu
Nagare ni makase migi ni naraeba
Nigoru sora mo sunde mieru ka?

[Azayaka sugita risou ni kuzurete gareki no umi he]

Me no mae ni utsuru fure rarenu omoi
Itsu no manika kokoro wa muunde nurete ita

Kono me wo hanaseba itsuka kieteiku
Wazukana so no “souzou” mo yagate muni ochiru
Toki ga michite yuku
Tada yuganda mama

Mada minu mirai soko ni aru no wa “souzou” no nareno hate ka?

Soretomo ore no mujun ka?

Distorted: Translation

How deep does this distortion run?
Do you take me away?

I close my eyes against the meaningless passing of time
And found instinct circling the sky overhead
I want to sip that nectar with all my senses
Shedding both anguish and relief like a cast-off skin

I head towards those too-vivid ideals as they collapse into a sea of ruins

I realize I’m the one tumbling down there
Drowning in my desires, I won’t be able to recover
If I were to look up, this sky would still be
Too obscured by clouds [to see]

Even a flower that bloomed amidst the rubble will die eventually, right?

If I were to turn my eyes away, it would eventually disappear
[It’s as if] the distorted landscape is mocking me

In that future yet unseen, is everything just the ruins of what I “created?”

Broken down as I am, I’m unable to do anything
But float through this distorted reality
If I simply follow along and let the current take me,
Will I finally be able to see that obscured sky clearly?

[I head towards those too-vivid ideals as they collapse into a sea of ruins]

Though they’re right before my eyes, I’m unable to grasp these feelings
Before I even realized it, my heart was flooded with uncertainty

If I were to turn my eyes away, it would eventually disappear
Even this tiny fragment of “imagination” will soon be reduced to nothingness
Time is running out
And everything remains distorted…

In that future yet unseen, is everything just the ruins of what I “created?”

Or is it just my uncertainty?
