BIZARRE

Romaji and English translation of the song BIZARRE from the album DOGMA by the GazettE.

Translator's Notes
  • Lyrics originally sung in English are in italics in the translation.
  • Words or phrases I felt were implied are in [brackets].
  • I also (usually) put repeats of chorus/verses/stanzas in [brackets] if they’re not written that way in the original lyrics for ease of singing along.
  • Any comments I had during the romajization/translation process will be included as footnotes so as not to disturb the flow of the song. They’re not required reading, but Ruki does some pretty nifty things with his lyrics/kanji choices, or sometimes there’s further explanations about words or phrases in there.

BIZARRE: Romaji

BIZARRE: Translation

In my spinning, spinning field of vision
Someone1 was violated over and over again
In my spinning, spinning field of vision
They were violated

Scared eyes of the crowd
This gate is to hell
That famous bad face
[She is bizarre…]

Exaggerated, puffed-up delusions
And unformed personalities
An unbridled curiosity that is shattered self-control
With no limits to their bizarre lust
Obsessed with pushing boundaries
Their brutal nature shown in their eyes
Are their perverted qualities

scared body
This gate is to hell
Scared body
With greedy eyes
scared body
This gate is to hell
Scared body
Death valley

They make their living committing atrocities     the source of immature retribution
They deserve death for the pain of loss [they cause]

Exaggerated, puffed-up delusions
And unformed personalities
An unbridled curiosity that is shattered self-control
They’ll keep laughing even if you lock them up
Their pervasive darkness has creeping roots
A generation of impulsive behavior2
That reality can’t break through

scared body
This gate is to hell
Scared body
With greedy eyes
scared body
This gate is to hell
Scared body
Death valley

They make their living committing atrocities     the source of immature retribution
The deserve death for the pain of loss [they cause]

Their eyes bask in the terrible spectacle, seeking pleasure until they die

  1. The word used here is 奴 yatsu, which means is a derogatory or familiar pronoun for “he/she, him/her” when written with this character as opposed to in hiragana alone. It’s not gender-specific, however, so I went with a generic “someone.” The only actual pronoun in the entire song is a “she” in English a couple lines down…but I think that might be a translation software artifact rather than actually referring to a specific female.
  2. Ruki commented in the DOGMA booklet that this song is about juvenile crime; all the “qualities” listed are obviously negative, impulsive, immature, and dark. Again, there are no real pronouns in the song, so I translated the whole thing as if referring to “they/them” – juvenile offenders as a general group.
