Romaji and English translation of the song SxDxR from the album DISORDER by the GazettE.
- Lyrics originally sung in English are in italics , and words or phrases I felt were implied are in [brackets] in the translation.
- I also (usually) put repeats of chorus/verses/stanzas in [brackets] if they’re not written that way in the original lyrics for ease of singing along.
- If he writes a word in the lyrics but doesn’t sing it, I put it in light grey to make it easier to skip when singing along.
- I usually romajize katakana characters in CAPITALS, and keep punctuation and line spacing as close to the original booklet as possible. If you see me putting spaces before punctuation at the end of a sentence or writing things in mixed-case capitals, that’s because it’s how it was in the booklet.
- Any comments I had during the romajization/translation process will be included as footnotes so as not to disturb the flow of the song. They’re not required reading, but Ruki does some pretty nifty things with his lyrics/kanji choices, or sometimes there’s further explanations about words or phrases in there.

- These lines are not written in the lyrics. They’re actually the first two lines of the Sid Vicious/Sex Pistols cover of the song C’mon Everybody. Video here if you’re interested.
- He actually writes 蛇側 hebigawa, or “snakeskin,” but sings the English word “snake” in its place. I ended up using the actual definition of “snakeskin” in the translation because it makes more sense. I mean, kinda. I’ve never heard of a snakeskin bed, but who am I to judge?
- He repeats this a bunch of times then says something really fast right after the last time, before the next verse. It kind of sounds like “SHOWTIMEてばやろう / SHOWTIME teba yarou”, which would be roughly, “Yo, guys, looks like it’s SHOWTIME.” I wasn’t sure so I didn’t put it in there, but just in case someone was wondering…
- The initials SxDxR in the title stand for Sex, Drugs, and Rock ‘n Roll.
- I…don’t know… あやす ayasu means “cuddle, dandle, stroke, comfort, soothe, etc.” so… this sounds way dirtier to me than maybe it’s meant to? Then again, the song is called Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll so it’s probably exactly what I’m picturing, tbh.
- I don’t know if this is a misspelling of the English word PILL or another Sex Pistols reference, tbh. Johnny Rotten and some of the original SP members formed a post-punk band in 1978 called Public Image Ltd. (abbreviated PiL or PIL). As far as I can tell, it has nothing to do with Kurt Cobain/Courtney Love, though.
Unless it’s a statement about how grunge (which is kind of a hybrid/fusion of punk and metal, and in which musical genre Kurt Cobain is famous as the lead singer of Nirvana) “replaced” punk in the 80’s/90’s? IDK. That’s a guess, anyway. - Another Sex Pistols reference, probably referring to their manager, Malcolm McLaren, who the members accused of being controlling and mismanaging the band/not paying them, etc.
(I also found a reference in an article online that said he declared the punk scene officially dead at the turn of the millennium – but I couldn’t find the actual original quote itself. Regardless, that’s probably the “somebody” from “ROCK N ROLL IS DEAD, somebody once told me that very thing.”)
