Romaji and English translation of the song AN UNBEARABLE FACT from the single Red by the GazettE.
- Lyrics originally sung in English are in italics , and words or phrases I felt were implied are in [brackets] in the translation.
- I also (usually) put repeats of chorus/verses/stanzas in [brackets] if they’re not written that way in the original lyrics for ease of singing along.
- If he writes a word in the lyrics but doesn’t sing it, I put it in light grey to make it easier to skip when singing along.
- I usually romajize katakana characters in CAPITALS, and keep punctuation and line spacing as close to the original booklet as possible. If you see me putting spaces before punctuation at the end of a sentence or writing things in mixed-case capitals, that’s because it’s how it was in the booklet.
- Any comments I had during the romajization/translation process will be included as footnotes so as not to disturb the flow of the song. They’re not required reading, but Ruki does some pretty nifty things with his lyrics/kanji choices, or sometimes there’s further explanations about words or phrases in there.
AN UNBEARABLE FACT: Romaji
Akari wo otoshi shizumu shisou
Aijou no kikei yugamu ketsuen
-The fact-
Omoidasenai hohoemi
Sou nani mo kikoenai
Tsumetaku kaze wa mado wo kezuru
Ishiki no soko de hajiketa risou kyou
Mou kotoba nado iranai
“Shinjitsu” wa taegataku
Nodo wo hikisaite
Kobore dasanu you ni
Nokotta no wa setsubou ni kuruu ryoume
[-The fact-]
Mou kotoba nado iranai
“Shinjitsu” wa taegataku
Nodo wo hikisaite
Jihei no yami de mita
Bura sagatta mama no aizou
Shi to mitsumeai “hate” ni fureru
Okizari no setsubou ni kuruu ryoume
AN UNBEARABLE FACT: Translation
The light is fading and I’m drowning in my thoughts
Of twisted love and warped family relationships1
-The fact-
I can’t remember [what it is to] smile
Really I can’t even hear a thing
A frigid wind scratches at the windowpane
As deep in my subconscious, my utopia smashed to pieces
I don’t want [to hear] any more words
This “fact” is unbearable2
My throat is raw
From holding back [my tears]
All that was left was the hope in my distraught eyes
[-The fact-]
I don’t want [to hear] any more words
My “reality” is unbearable
My throat is raw
And within the darkness of my isolation could be seen
Love and hatred both suspended [before me]
Because when we fix our eyes on one another we see [only] “the end” and death
The hope in my distraught eyes deserts me
- According to interviews, this song is about a girl whose family has fallen apart and the sorrow she feels about the situation.
- 事実 jijitsu means “truth/reality,” so this could also be translated as “My ‘reality’ is unbearable” – in fact, since this line is repeated later in the song, I translated it that way there. They both fit with the song (the first obviously being the title itself).
