Kyomu no owari hazokume no mokushi

Romaji and English translation of the song 虚無の終わり 箱詰めの黙示 (Kyomu no owari     hakozume no mokushi) from the single Guren by the GazettE.

Translator's Notes
  • Lyrics originally sung in English are in italics in the translation.
  • Words or phrases I felt were implied are in [brackets].
  • I also (usually) put repeats of chorus/verses/stanzas in [brackets] if they’re not written that way in the original lyrics for ease of singing along.
  • Any comments I had during the romajization/translation process will be included as footnotes so as not to disturb the flow of the song. They’re not required reading, but Ruki does some pretty nifty things with his lyrics/kanji choices, or sometimes there’s further explanations about words or phrases in there.

At the End of Nothingness     the Apocalypse Packed in a Box1: Translation

You raptly watched, with bated breath, the images that float [on the screen]     your expression vacant

You can’t peel your face away [from it]
[The ones] tugging those unpleasant strings want you to silently hold in your passions2

Your eyes overflow with the truth     and someday soon you’ll be able to open your mouth without fear

La lala la lala la la
You can only stare at that tiny box3
La lala la lala lala la
As the blackness sinks into [your soul]

When you question ‘why,’ you find it both fascinating and painful
Brimming eyes overflow;     what will be forced out the next time they beckon?

The reflected fragments are a hindrance     forcing you to reveal your true nature

What’s the reason for it, and what do they want to convey?

La lala la lala la la
The only thing you need is that small box
La lala la lala lala la
As the blackness sinks into [your soul]

When you question ‘why,’ you find it both fascinating and painful
Brimming eyes overflow     and it keeps happening over and over
That sadness is both fascinating and painful
What can you hope and pray for, even as your vision clouds over?

In that place more oppressive than their restrictions…

[La lala la lala la la
In that place…
La lala la lala la la]

Translator’s Notes:

  1. According to FOOL’S MATE (March 2008), Ruki said this “box” refers to a television (or basically any outlet where media is consumed).
  2. The media wants people to keep quiet and calm even during controversy or turmoil.
  3. Again box = TV
