Romaji and English translation of the song FORBIDDEN BEAVER from the single FADELESS by the GazettE.
I gave this the explicit tag, but honestly, it’s pretty tame. The tag is for mild sexual content if you couldn’t tell from the title.
- Lyrics originally sung in English are in italics , and words or phrases I felt were implied are in [brackets] in the translation.
- I also (usually) put repeats of chorus/verses/stanzas in [brackets] if they’re not written that way in the original lyrics for ease of singing along.
- If he writes a word in the lyrics but doesn’t sing it, I put it in light grey to make it easier to skip when singing along.
- I usually romajize katakana characters in CAPITALS, and keep punctuation and line spacing as close to the original booklet as possible. If you see me putting spaces before punctuation at the end of a sentence or writing things in mixed-case capitals, that’s because it’s how it was in the booklet.
- Any comments I had during the romajization/translation process will be included as footnotes so as not to disturb the flow of the song. They’re not required reading, but Ruki does some pretty nifty things with his lyrics/kanji choices, or sometimes there’s further explanations about words or phrases in there.

Ascending those 13 stairs3, you’re a vision that’s falling apart
You strip off that dress from your performance and head straight for the guillotine
You look so lovely4 all smeared over with lust; is it because of your lips that [you] look like such a slut5?
And really, with all the offensive things they’re saying [about you] so recklessly filling the air
You’re disrupting the rhythm of high society
Forbidden red lips

- “Beaver” is a euphemism/slang for female genitalia, in case anyone didn’t happen to know that already.
- Just an interesting side note, while Betty is a woman’s name, it can also be an expression meaning a sexy, attractive, and confident woman. So like, “Wow, did you see so-and-so at the reunion? She’s turned into a real betty since high school.”
Additionally “in the trash box” in this same line is probably referring to how this woman did something to ruin her reputation, which is now essentially garbage. (More on that in the next note.) - 十三階段 juusankaidan, or literally “13 stairs,” is also a term for “gallows” (where someone is hanged) – this term references the number of steps to the platform where execution is carried out – 13. Ruki really likes this word and the mental picture it creates – he’s used it in a couple other songs, including one song title: 13STAIRS[-]1 from DIM, and DAWN from DOGMA come to mind. He’s probably used it in others I can’t think of off the top of my head, too. LOL
In this song, I think he’s using it as a reference to social suicide as opposed to like, actual execution. According to interviews, this song was kind of a joke (not like funny-ha-ha, but like satire) written about a woman who was apparently big news in a not so great way; her public image was tarnished after it was revealed she had a sex addiction, and she became the topic of tons of gossip. - This word, 愛しい itoshii, can actually mean “lovely, dear, beloved, darling” – or the almost opposite: “pitiful, pathetic.” So from the choice of words, he could be offering a backhanded or tongue-in-cheek compliment.
- ふしだら fushidara means, among a couple other things, “licentious, fast, loose” – which is basically “immoral, out of control, and slutty.”
